Domestic violence, which manifests itself in physical, sexual, emotional and economic forms, is a widespread phenomenon worldwide that concerns not only the individual or family but also the whole society. For this reason, domestic violence is a human rights and public health problem. It is necessary to take action to prevent and eliminate violence because of the serious consequences of domestic violence on women’s health, quality of life and children. In the literature, it has been shown that nurses have an active role in the programs which have proven effective in preventing domestic violence. Nurses are required to assess family and family members regularly to fulfill these active roles. The most appropriate method that enables an effective evaluation and monitoring is home visits. With the home visits, the family can be evaluated closely, the presence or risk of violence can be determined, initiatives can be made and prevention of violence can be endured. There is no practice in the scope of primary health care services to prevent domestic violence in our country. Therefore, practices in the scope of primary health care services for the prevention of domestic violence are needed. This article was written to develop a model proposal based on home visits to prevent domestic violence by the public health nurses at the Family Health Center and Community Health Centers within the scope of primary health care services in Turkey.
