Aim: The aim of this study was to determine nurses' perception level and related factors of spirituality and spiritual care .

Methods: Study was carried out with nurses working at two university hospitals and four state hospitals in the East Anatolian Region. No sampling method was used; total 554 nurses were included in the study. A “Personal Information Form” and “Spirituality and Spiritual Care Rating Scale” were used for data collection. The highest total score for scale is 69, 31 for spirituality and spiritual care subscale, 16 for religiosity subscale and personalized care subscale.

Results: Half of (56.5%) nurses had 1-5 working years, 56% of them was working as contract staff and 55% of them working 40 hours per week. Also, 53.2% of nurses were working at department of internal medicine, 55.2% of them were day shift nurses. Nurses' mean score for spirituality and spiritual care subscale was found as 24.32±3.53, for spirituality subscale 10.79±2.37, and for personal care 13.49±1.90. Nurses Spirituality and Spiritual Care Rating Scale total mean score was found as 53.40±5.33. Statistically significant difference was found between total mean scores and nurses' marital status, educational levels of their mothers, having a dependent relative, believe in evil eye and attitudes towards patients' traditional practices related with spirituality (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between total mean scores and nurses' total working years, permanent or temporary job position, working hours per week, department, shift type and hospitalization experience (p>0.05).

Conclusion: It can be concluded that total working years, permanent or temporary job position, working hours per week, department, shift type and hospitalization experience did not affect nurses perception levels of spirituality and spiritual care. Nurses whose mothers had high school or higher education level, single, have dependent relative, do not believe in evil eye and think patients traditional spirituality practices should not be performed since they are useless, had a high perception level of spirituality and spiritual care. Nurses had a high perception level of spirituality and spiritual care but still need information about spirituality and spiritual care.
