Multisensorial Stimulation Method's Effect on Cognitive Status of Alzheimer Patients

The study was conducted as quasi-experimental design with the aim to examine the interventions of music therapy, painting object-living being and orientation to person-place and time effects on cognitive status of patients with mild Alzheimer disease. At the study “Multi Sensorial Stimulation Method”, which includes music therapy, painting object-living being and person-place-time orientation, has been used. This study was carried out according to the “proportional cluster sampling” method, at the 75th Year Rest and Care Home, which was the only institution that accommodated the sampling number. It was identified that the change of MMSE (Mini Mental State Examination) scores over time (prior to, immediately after, and at the 3rd week after the study intervention) were significant (p=0.001). In addition the MMSE scores of patients who have higher education levels and who used to play chess– backgammon were found to be significantly high (p<0.05).

The Investigation of the Factors Influencing Bone Mineral Density of Postmenopausal Women

Background: Throughout the world, over 200 million people experience bones mineral density loss and approximately 40% of the affected people are women at the postmenopausal period. Because of the bone mineral losses women are at risk of bone fractures and they are subjected to medical treatment for long periods, which negatively affects their quality of life. Objective: This study was conducted for the purpose of determining some risk factors influencing the bone mineral density of women during the postmenopausal period. Method: The sample of the descriptive study is composed of 234 women who attended to the Menopause clinic of Ministry of Health Hospital in Ankara and whose femur neck and lumbar2-4 vertebra bone mineral density measurements were made. Data were collected by face to face interview using a data collection form. Results: In the study, statistically significant differences have been identified between the duration of menopause, prolongation of the lactation period, receive of hormone replacement therapy, current health problems and having a first degree relative diagnosed with osteoporosis and bone mineral density in femur neck and lumbar vertebrae2-4 (p<0.05). Conclusion: This research contributes to the literature relevant to the risk factors of osteoporosis by indicating the adverse affect of prolonged lactation period, early cessation of hormone replacement treatment and having relatives with osteoporosis after menopause on bone mineral density of women during the postmenopausal period.

Perception of and Views on Gender Roles of Senior Students Enrolled at Kafkas University

This study was conducted with the aim to determine point of view of final-year university students at Kafkas University on gender roles regarding work life, social life, marriage and family life. This study is a cross-sectional study. The questionnaire was applied to a total of 236 students including 123 females and 113 males. The results of the study reveal that views of students on gender roles related to professional life, social life, family life and marriage exhibit statistically significant differences among the sexes for most of the statements given. It was identified that male students have more traditional views on gender roles related to marriage and family life and work and social life. The results of the study are important in that views on gender roles are revealed among most university students. The finding that university students still have a traditional perspective on social gender roles indicates that universities has failed to a certain degree in achieving its goal toward educating intellectual and open-minded individuals, and it reveals the need for sensitiveness in equality of gender roles besides the acquirement of professional knowledge.

Effect of An Education Programme on the Lifestyle Change and Compliance to Drug Therapy of Hypertensive Patients

This study was conducted as quasi-experimental to determine the effect of an education program on the lifestyle changes and compliance to drug therapy of patients with hypertension diagnosis. 45 patients were recruited to this study who applied to hypertension, obesity and diabetes center of Mugla State Hospital in between October 2005 and December 2005. Mean age of patients was 51.0 � 9.9 year, and 53.3 % graduated from primary school, 64.4 % female and 84.4 % was married. Following the education program the rate of patients who practice exercises and adjust to diet therapy has increased whereas the number of smokers has not changed. There was a significant decrease on daily consumption of foods ( except meat group) which are rich in saturated fat and cholesterol, but, there was an important increase on the consumption of legumes, fruits and vegetables. After a six month follow-up period all of the patients used their drugs according to the prescribed dose and frequency.

Health High School Students Experienced Dysmenorrhoea and Their Applications to Cope with it

The study was conducted as a descriptive to determine the dysmenorrhoea status and coping practicesof female students who were enrolled in Ke�i�ren Laboratory and health high school. The universe of this study included 201 female students. However, because of several ressons 48 students could not be recruated whic hadlead to 153 students for sampling. Research data were collected using a questionnaire form which was developed by the researchers using information in literature. Verbal and written consent were given from institutions and students for applying the research. The SPSS 15.0 packet programme was used for coding of data Pearson Chi-Square (χ2) and percentage methods were used for analysing. At the end of the research we found that, 86.9%had dysmenorrhoea,in 38.3%dysmenorrhoea was starting at beginning of menstruation and 42.1%goes on during menstruation. It was determined that the most of the coplaints about dysmenorrhoea was abdominal pain (58.4%). Bed resting was coping practice with dysmenorrhoea. According to the statistical analyze; experiencing dysmenorrhoea has been affected by age and family history (p<0.05) however not affected by knowledge on menstruation and first menstruation age (p>0.05). We suggested that reproductive health issue should be integrated into the school education program.

Organizational Commitment: One of the Determinants of Intention to Stay in or Leave From Organization

Nursing Care of the Patients with Malnutrition

Malnutrition, the most common nutritional disorder in the world, which affects a lot of organs and systems, is caused by insufficient intake of minerals, vitamins, carbonhydrates and proteins. The level of development, socio-cultural structure, and physiological and psychological factors do play an important role in eating disorders. Patients with malnutrition are in need of intensive nursing care. The holistic approach is crucial in nursing care. Nursing care includes the satisfaction of eating needs, education of the patient and his family, and the meeting of psychological needs.

An Ethical Problem: Drug Researches in Psychiatry and Nursing

To reach scientific knowledge is the main goal in clinical drug research like in all research types. While in therapeutic researches that is administered in the light of this goal, the patient is both the goal and the means of the research, in non-theapeutic researches the patient is only the means of the research. Whether it is therapeutic or non- therapeutic, an independent, informed consent is necessary to be taken from patients who will take place in the research. Some patient groups are accepted as vulnerable about giving informed consent because of the missing abilities caused by their illnesses or not having the social power that is necessary to decide independently. Psychiatric patients are in the front sides of these groups. So, in drug researches that will be done in psychiatry it is necessary to be careful about rights of these patients by the team. In this paper, the situation of psychiatric nurses in drug researches as a team member in our country, the responsibilities they can have in research team and ethics committees have been presented in the light of rights of psychiatric patients as a vulnerable group and the roles of nurses.
