Nurses' Professional Behaviors and Burnout Levels

Aim: This study was conducted to determine the levels of professionalism and burnout in nurses. Material and Methods: This study was conducted as a descriptive study. The universe of the research was formed by nurses working in public health institutions in a province. Purposive sampling was used as the sampling method. A questionnaire consisting of three parts was used as the data collection tool in the research. The first part of the questionnaire contains personal information form, the second part is the Professional Behavior Evaluation Inventory (HPDE) and the third part is the Maslach Burnout Scale. Results: Thirty-six percent of the nurses works in inpatient clinics, 59.6% are in the age range of 36-45 years and 78.7% are females. It was found that there was a negative and low level of significant relationship between social service provision and qualification and continuing education subscale and emotional exhaustion from professionalism behaviors of nurses. According to the significance of the regression coefficients, it was determined that the qualification and the continuing education subscales have a negative effect on the emotional burnout. Conclusion: It was found that the nurses' professionalism behavior was low and the level of burnout was high. According to these results, it is recommended that training and practices be carried out.

The Effect of Breast Cancer Fatalism Perception on Breast Cancer Health Beliefs of The Midwives and Nurses

Aim: This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of breast cancer fatalism perception and other factors on breast cancer health beliefs of the midwives and nurses. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional and correlational study was carried with 327 midwives and nurses working at public hospitals in Zonguldak City Center. Information Form, Powe Fatalism Inventory and Champion�s Health Belief Model Scale were used for data collection. Numerical and percentage values, Mann Whitney-U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Spearman correlation analysis and Mann-Whitney U test with Bonferroni correction were used in data analyzing. Results: It was found that seriousness, health motivation, breast self-examination benefits and breast self-examination self-efficacy perceptions of the midwives and nurses were moderate, and susceptibility, breast self-examination barriers and breast cancer fatalism perceptions were low. And also, it was determined that there was a negative and weak correlation between perception of breast cancer fatalism and breast self-examination benefits (r = -.151, p = .006). Conclusion: Evaluating the factors affecting health beliefs of the midwives and nurses is important to increase the awareness for breast cancer.

Assessment of Mothers� Knowledge and Practices About Traditional Breastfeeding Termination Methods in Sivas

Aim: This study was conducted to determine the mothers� knowledge and practices about traditional breastfeeding termination methods. Material and Methods: This descriptive study was carried out in three family health centers located in the city center of Sivas. 241 mothers were included in the sample. The data were collected with the Personel Information Form and the Traditional Breastfeeding Termination Methods Determination Form, and analyzed by number, percentage, mean and standard deviation. Results: It was found that the average age of the mothers was 36.02 � 8.07, 48.1% of them were primary school graduates, 93.4% were not working and 89.6% were living in province center. It was determined that among the methods used in the process of breastfeeding termination, the most known methods were to apply tomato paste on breasts (72.2%), to apply pepper on breasts (64.3%) and using pacifier (50.6%). It was found that the methods used by mothers in the process of breastfeeding termination were using the baby bottle (44.4%), distract child�s attention by giving him/her fruit juice (39.8%) and using pacifiers (38.6%). Conclusions: It was observed that the methods used by mothers to terminate breastfeeding were collected under the headings of �removing the child from the breast by using some substances that will adversely affect the appearance of the breats and the taste of the milk�, �distraction of the child by using subtitutes such as bottle and pacifier or some food� and �getting away from the child�.

The Relationship Between Depression and Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy In The First Month of Postpartum

Aim: This study aims to identify the relationship between depression and breastfeeding self-efficacy in the first month of postpartum in women who had vaginal delivery. Material and Methods: This study is descriptive and correlational type study. The study sample consisted of 218 women who applied to the FHC for the first month follow up visit after birth and newborn vaccination, who were aged over 18, who did not have a psychiatric disease before and during pregnancy, and who had vaginal delivery. Data were collected through the Socio-demographic Form developed by the researcher, Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), and Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale (BSES). The questionnaires were administered via face-to-face interviews. Analysis of the data was performed using ANOVA and t-test in independent groups and Pearson correlation test was used to determine the relationship between postpartum depression and breastfeeding self-efficacy. Results: Average age of the women who accepted to participate in the study was 27.38�4.49. Breastfeeding Self-efficacy mean score was 47.80�6.62 (min=33, max=62) and Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale mean score was 14.94�3.31 (min=3, max=20). Results indicated a highly significant, negative relationship between EPDS and BSES mean scores (r=-.680, p<0.001). Conclusion: Results indicated that breastfeeding self-efficacy scores were low in women who had high depression scores. Nurses and midwives who work in family health care centers are recommended to identify postpartum depression timely and support women�s breastfeeding self-efficacy by helping them to solve this problem.

Attitudes of Midwifery Students Towards Professional Roles in Violence in Pregnancy

Aim: This study aims to identify attitudes of midwifery students towards professional roles in violence in pregnancy. Material and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted with 105 midwifery students. Data were collected by using �Socio-demographic Information Form� and �the Nurses� Attitudes regarding Professional Role in Violence Scale�. Non-parametric tests were used to analyze the data. Results: The average age of midwifery students was 21.59 � 1.43 (min: 20 - max: 23). It was found that attitudes of midwifery students towards professional roles in violence in pregnancy were positive and they used contemporary approaches in their professional roles (29.27�7.36). There was also significant difference between professional role attitudes median scores and students� class, age group, region of living and having education about violence in pregnancy (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that the attitudes of midwifery students towards professional roles in violence in pregnancy were positive and they used contemporary approaches in their professional roles. It was also found that midwifery students showed a supportive attitude and approach towards the pregnant woman who experienced the violence. In the light of the results obtained by revealing the attitudes of midwifery students towards violence in pregnancy, it may be suggested to include the subject as a separate theoretical course in the curriculum.

Evidences in Yoga Practices

Yoga, which originated from India, is a popular mental and physical exercise performed by adults. It is believed that this application have beneficial effects on physical and psychological health. Positive effects were reported in a variety of outcomes, including sleep quality, mood, stress, cancer-related symptoms, and overall quality of life, as well as functional and physiologic measures. However, the evidence supporting the use of yoga is limited. It is emphasized that the evidence obtained from the studies examining the effect of yoga on some symptoms is at B and C level in clinical practice guidelines on the evidence-based use of integrative therapies. It is seen that also the results of the study, which examined the effect of yoga on the nurses, seems to be not at a sufficient level. For this reason, in this review, it is recommended that further research should be done related to yoga risks and benefits as in other integrative methods and future research needs to focus specifically on the different effects of yoga practices.

The Usage of Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis

Patients with osteoarthritis generally have problems such as joint pain, limitation of joint range of motion, muscle weakness, joint stiffness, joint swelling and loss of function. Therefore, patients� daily life activities are severely restricted and quality of life is adversely affected. It is known that in the majority of patients with osteoarthritis, the symptoms associated with the disease cannot be effectively managed. This has led both patients and caregivers to seek different directions in the management of symptoms, and complementary and alternative medicine applications have begun to be used for this purpose. The aim of this review is to inform nurses about the use of complementary and alternative medicine in patients with knee osteoarthritis and to increase awareness of this area.

Quality of Life and Nursing Care of Patients with Tracheostomy

Laryngeal cancer accounts for 1-2% of all malignant tumors, approximately 40% of head and neck cancer. The most effective treatment for advanced stage laryngeal cancer is total laryngectomy. With the opening of tracheostomy after total laryngectomy surgery, patients' lives are completely changed and their quality of life is negatively affected by the problems they have to deal with for lifetime. For this reason, nurses, who care for tracheostomized patients, should give care to patients and their families to increase their ability to cope with these problems. In this article, the importance of nursing care in increasing quality of life in patients with tracheostomy will be discussed.

Assessment of Patients Undergoing Bariatric Surgery According to The Roy's Adaptation Model: Two Case Reports

Obesity is a complex, multifactorial, and largely preventable disease. Today, all countries in the world have reached the alarm level. For this reason, many treatment modalities have been developed in the fight against obesity today. One of them is a bariatric surgery. Individuals may experience serious adjustment problems due to significant changes in eating, lifestyle and body image after bariatric surgery. Roy's Adaptation Model (RAM), widely used in nursing, focuses on determining the adaptation needs of the individuals in the four areas of integration and the changes that occur in and around the human adaptation system. In this case study, two patients who underwent bariatric surgery in a university hospital in 2017 were evaluated preoperatively one time and postoperatively four times according to RAM. In this study, it was determined that the first case adapted according to RAM while the second case could not adapt and have physiological and psychological complications. In the study, RAM facilitated the systematic evaluation and monitoring of patients and made it possible to identify problems. Thus, it was concluded that the nurses could evaluate the adaptation problems experienced by the individuals after the bariatric surgery according to the RAM from the preoperative period and could facilitate the adaptation by planning and applying the necessary interventions to solve the identified problems.
