Determination of Some Practices About Drug Consumption of Individuals Living In Sait Yazici Health Center Area

This research is carried out with the purpose to determine drug consumption and some practices about this subject of individuals living in Sait Yazıcı Health Center. The sample of this cross-sectional study consists of 372 individuals living in this region. Most of the individuals participated to this study are women between the age of 20 and 40, and primary school educational level. Approximately 50 % of sample report that they have social insurance guarantee while 25.8 % report that they do not have any social guarantee. About, 11.8 % of sample report their income level as sufficient.

Fifty two percent of drugs are obtained from pharmacy with prescription while 33.8 % are obtained without any prescription. Drugs are also obtained from neighbours (14.7 %) from grocery store (9.6 %) and from home, which were collected. The proportion of sample using drugs according to neighbors' advises is 28 %. About 25.2% of participations paid attention to the last usage date of drugs, whether they are suitable for the disease and wrapping package for appropriateness

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and analgesics drugs (83.1 %), antibiotics (40.3 %), vitamin and nutritional drugs (30.9 %), and gastrointestinal drugs (20.6 %) are most commonly used drugs which were collected at home. The reasons for not using antibiyotics completely are reported by the participants as considering to be recovered (67 %), the side effects of drugs (17.4 %) and believing that the drugs are not effective.
